Frustrating. This most recent discussion is pointless and frustrating. Every few months fandom gets itself in a tizzy over another fan’s proclamation that admiring RA’s physical assets is somehow dehumanizing or that seeing him in a sexual light takes away his human dignity. It sparks a war between the fans who feel that way and those who lust over him and ponder the size of his package (no, I don’t mean the one that just got delivered).
I believe everyone has a right to their opinion and should follow their conscious and can go ahead a blog about it until their fingers fall off if that makes them happy. I just wish opinions were expressed in a manner that does not put others down if they don’t agree with the blogger. Mutual respect. That being said, here’s my opinion. After reading this, I realized that I lean more towards objectification and that I’m OK with it. I’m not a huge movie person and not really impressed by acting ability or anything like that. I go more by my “gut” feel and RA makes my gut feel good (along with a few other parts). On the other hand, I appreciate Hiddles but that’s another discussion.
Rich has taken roles where he has allowed himself to be filmed just about naked. In my mind, someone who takes those roles should expect that some people will be titillated sexually seeing that. Being that RA took these roles, I have the suspicion that he doesn’t mind. In fact, someone who was as dorky as he was during his teen years probably gets off on the fact that men and women get off looking at him now.

Richard Armitage, Between the Sheets. I personally wouldn’t do stuff like this on film if I didn’t want to be seen in a sexual way.

Richard Armitage, Between the Sheets. Although they seem to be more on top of the sheets….
Second, RA has never came out and said that he wishes his fans would stop making gifs, videos, blogs, photo manipulations, etc, especially those of a sexual nature. He never will. These kinds of things are good for business, they keep fans interested and buying. Acting is not a profession where looking good and being sexually attractive are considered a bad thing.
Third, Rich keeps a lot of things to himself. I’m sure this allows him to feel that he is keeping his dignity and sense of self. As has been brought out so many times on various blogs that it makes my head hurt thinking about it: we don’t know the real RA, we know what he wants us to. That being said, I don’t think we as fans can hurt him as long as we don’t invade his personal boundaries.
If you agree with me, fine. If you disagree with me that’s fine too. If you want to express your opinion, great. The more dialogue the better (I guess). Just please do it in a manner that gives those who disagree with you respect as well. If you can’t do that it may be best to keep your opinion to yourself because if you don’t I suspect many fans are at a point to be inclined to return the rudeness with a ….
I know Richard has got to be wore out after that press whirlwind surrounding The Hobbit premieres. I remained silent during that time as I did not follow it as closely as other fans who did an excellent job covering the goings on. I will say this, despite varying reports of his height from himself, he did a good job. I was very impressed with the way he carried himself and how he was dressed for the most part. There are some lovely photo spreads and interviews out there. Overall, Mr. Armitage did us proud.
On that note, I depart to Tom Hiddleston. I’m also impressed with him (and proud). He’s helping draw attention to those in need by visiting Guinea with UNICEF UK and seeing what they do to help children. I encourage everyone to read his field diary entries on the UNICEF UK blog. He expresses himself much better than I can even attempt to, so please check it out.
Reblogged from Health At Every Size® Blog:
The World Health Organization defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” In the early portion of my presentations to health professionals, I often ask how they feel about the accuracy, appropriateness and scientific validity of this definition – likely the most oft-quoted one on the planet.
I’m taking a serious note with this post. I value life, human and animal. I spend my days helping people live longer and healthier (hopefully). I love my fur baby (looking at you Snickers). I believe that human and animal life belongs to G-d and should be treated with respect. That being said I took issue with what was brought to my attention via an article on TheOneRing.net based on an AP article. I should note, I found it interesting that I was made aware of the article from my email subscription, the site did not tweet a link to this article or advertise it on their Facebook.

This is a picture of a horse that reminds me of the horse my brother owned. I do not have any knowledge of this horse being associated with anything to do with The Hobbit in any way, shape or form. Photo from tumblr.
My gut reaction to reading the article on TORn was that I could not support the film makers by viewing the movie. When I read the AP article I noted that the production company was fairly quick to fix the problem, even before the American Humane Association investigated the area (at the production company’s request). The fact that the issue was addressed quickly made me feel slightly better. However, I’m still kind of upset.
I’m sure things were well thought out on where Richard Armitage, Sir Ian McKellen and the other stars of The Hobbit were staying and care was taken so that their lodgings were safe. I am upset that the same care and effort were not taken to make sure that the animal’s lodgings were safe from the beginning. I know not everyone feels the same way I do about animals (likely including some reading this post) but this is important to me. I need to decide if this is a deal breaker for me to see the film.

This quote from RichardArmitageQuote “I think I broke a tree…when I was at Drama School being a monkey because I thought… I was a tiny little monkey and obviously I’m not.” Well, here is breaking proof that Rich really was a tiny little monkey and someone else must have broken the tree!!!!
